Start from Puerto Montt/Puerto Varas for a day visit to the coastal area of Carretera Austral, visiting small fishing villages, local boatyards, net pens of a salmon farming company and a sea lion colony.
In Metri, visit the Aquaculture Research Center , observing several projects of cultivation of fish species, mollusks and crustaceans. Lunch is in a restaurant located next to a forest reservation, and there is a salmon based menu.

After lunch, there's a walk around the beach during low tide. You will visit a natural sanctuary of ancient larches trees (Alerce), declared as national monument and where fossil remains can be observed with ages up to 49.000 years.
