Leave Puerto Montt or Puerto Varas heading down the Pan-American Highway to Pargua from where the ferry awaits to cross the Canal de Chacao (around 30 minutes voyage). Once on the island of Chiloé a small detour is made to visit the bay of Caulín , a great place to see many species of birdlife including Black-necked Swans, wild ducks, gulls, Cormorants and even, on occasions pink Flamingoes.
From here it is a short drive into the town of Ancud where a visit is made to the last Spanish Colonial fort in South America , Fuerte San Antonio. From here flew the last Spanish colonial flag in Chile guarded by the still present canon and overlooking the port and the bay.

After lunch we head further along the coast to the “Islotes de Puñihuil”, the only place in Chile where you can find breeding colonies of both Humboldt and Magellan Penguins. From aboard a zodiac inflatable and accompanied by a local specialist guide the visit around the islets is made seeing the penguins, sea lions and even on occasions sea otters on the way. It is not possible to go ashore on the islets due to the terrain and for the protection of the islets inhabitants! We return to Puerto Montt quite late in the evening having retraced the route back through Ancud, Chacao, the ferry crossing and Pargua.
Doesn't include zodiac trip to Puñihuil Islotes and lunch, entrance fee.
